Actress and movie producer, Omoni Oboli, has a ready-made answer for those who question her directorial credibility after she disclosed to the media that her movie, Being Mrs. Elliott, which she wrote, produced and directed would soon hit cinemas.
Some critics had gone to town, questioning why Omoni Oboli, who has established massive credibility as an actress would delve into directing, a field that is considered only for those who are highly trained. To them Omoni should have just stuck to acting and leave directing to the directors.
But speaking in a statement issued by her publicist, Omoni declared that she did not jump into an unfamiliar field “I learnt some people asked if I am competent enough to direct a movie, without wanting to join issues with those people, the answer to their question is yes. Not only have I picked up on-the field experience, I also went to one of the best film schools in the world, the New York Film Academy (NYFA) to learn directing specifically. My lecturers were impressed with my project and I remain one of the few female practitioners in the industry who have gone to the school. If my years of experience and NYFA education don’t qualify me, I wonder what will. For those who know about movie and those who have taste for good movie, Being Mrs Elliott will more than impress.”
