Jose Mourinho watched his Chelsea side slump to a 4-2 home defeat against Bradford City in the FA Cup fourth round today, and labelled it a “disgrace”.
Strong favourites Chelsea went 2-0 up at Stamford Bridge, but ended up falling apart and losing 4-2 to League One outfit Bradford City.
It certainly wasn’t the only shock of a typically magical day of FA Cup football, as Manchester City were beaten 2-0 at home to Middlesbrough, while Southampton and Tottenham also crashed out at home.
Speaking after the game, Mourinho told the BBC: “I don’t feel so upset with myself because I did my work properly. I thought I prepared my players. At half-time I told them exactly what could happen. Obviously I am also responsible for that, but the reality is that this happens a lot of times in this country.
“Never to me. It is the first time it happens with me in English football. I can feel really happy for them. I was in that dressing room but at the same time I use the same word I used yesterday. It is a disgrace we were knocked out.”
The loss ended a run of 27 home FA Cup victories for Chelsea, and Phil Parkinson’s Bradford City claimed yet another Premier League scalp just as they did on their memorable run to the League Cup final in 2013, beating the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa.
Bradford were also playing in the FA Cup fourth round for the first time in 15 years.
Chelsea currently lie top of the Premier League, five points clear of closest rivals Man City, while the Bantams are currently seventh in League One, just a point off the play-off places.
Another shock on this FA Cup weekend came on Friday night, when Manchester United travelled to League Two outfit Cambridge, only to be held to a 0-0 draw.
