The 18th day of January, 2015 will go on to be a day not wanting to be remembered in the Nollywood industry as it lost one of its acts, a very well-seasoned actor, Late Muna Obiekwe. He died in a hospital somewhere in Festac area of Lagos state.
Before his demise, the late actor, fair in complexion, was one of Nollywood’s most controversial as he took on highly controversial roles and delivered them to the best of his capability; his utmost professionalism, impeccability and eloquence made him stand out amongst his equals.
He also happened to be one that was able to take his family life out of the public eye, in this age and time where everyone takes a selfie, and upload their day to day lives on social media.
Muna Obiekwe was that actor that you’d always want to look out for. Call for 5 Casanovas and you will have 1 Muna Obiekwe. This and more made his female fans always want more of him. Not to talk of his uncanny ability to portray as a same-sex lover in his movies, one would even naturally think he swings that way, but no, he is an actor and he delivers whenever he is being called upon to.
He was an actor who had a panache beyond comparison in many of his roles. He was one damn good actor. He has starred in many romantic and sex-related movies than Iceprince has dropped dope verses in a rap song.
As regards the same-sex movies talked about in the aforementioned sentences, Muna was in this very controversial movie where he played the role of a gay lover and even went on to have gay sex in some of the scenes (The “make believe” industry made us believe he had sex with a fellow male in the movie, the later role played by Ghanaian John Dumelo) and another movie, Dirty Secret, that starred actress Tonto Dike and veteran Jibola Dabo.
Pictures and few clips from the life and times of Munachimso Obiekwe.
RIP Muna Obiekwe.
