The director-general of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, has charged the Manu Garba-led Flying Eagles not to rest on their oars in the quest for glory at the on-going Africa U-20 Youth Championship in Senegal until victory is achieved.
He also heaped praises on the lads for booking a ticket to this year’s edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Switzerland after beating Congo 4-1 in their second Group A on Wednesday.
Elegbeleye, who had earlier tipped the six time champions to win the tournament for the seven times, reiterated his confident in the team to come back with the trophy.
“When the team was going to Senegal, I knew that they have the quality and the talents, not only to do well in the championship but to also win the trophy. I would say that they have not disappointed me, so far. They must not rest on their oars until the trophy is won for a record seventh time. I know they can do it.
“I sincerely thank the team and its coaches led by Manu Garba for doing the nation proud by winning the FIFA U- 20 World Cup ticket, having beaten Congo 4-1 on Wednesday to achieve this feat. The National Sports Commission will honour them like we have been doing to other victorious team if they win this competition,” Elegbeleye assured.
