Arsene Wenger finally got one over Jose Mourinho, as his Arsenal team beat Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley, to win this year’s Community Shield.
The Gunners came into the season-opening clash in rich form, having won all their pre-season games, but did not look threatening in the opening moments of the game.
All that changed in the 24th minute, when Theo Walcott found Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the right and his former Southampton team-mate left Cesar Azpilicueta wrong-footed, before unleashing a left-footed drive.
Mourinho responded by replacing the ineffective Loic Remy with new man Radamel Falcao, but it was Arsenal who created the better chances to score.
It is the second year in a row that Wenger’s men are winning the trophy, after they humbled Manchester City 3-0 last year.
