Premier League champions Chelsea have displayed their faith in Jose Mourinho by giving the manager a new long-term contract.
The club announced on Friday, the eve of the new season, that Mourinho will stay a further four years at Stamford Bridge.
The Chelsea website wrote: “Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce Jose Mourinho has signed a new four-year contract.
“The new deal…will keep the 52-year-old at Stamford Bridge until at least 2019.”
Mourinho said: “If the club is happy, I am happy. I think this is a normal thing for me to sign a new contract. It is important we have this continuity and I hope we can enjoy more success in the future – for the fans, the players and the club.
“I said when I returned here two years ago that I have a special feeling for this club and nothing changed. It is the club closest to my heart and I am very happy to know I will be staying here for a long time.”
Mourinho led Chelsea to our first Premier League title in five years last season, while also securing the Capital One Cup by beating Tottenham at Wembley in March.
During his first spell with the club between 2004 and 2007 he was twice a league champion, lifting both the FA Cup and League Cup (twice), before enjoying success at both Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
