Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheanacho scored another goal as Stuttgart thrashed Manchester City 4-2 in a pre-season friendly at the Mercedes Benz Arena, Stuttgart, on Saturday.
Osaze Odemwingie was also on target on Saturday for Stoke but they suffered a 2-1 defeat to FC Koln in another pre-season friendly.
Iheanacho, who played for 45 minutes having replaced Wilfried Bony at half-time, fired home City’s first goal from close range in the 84th minute off a clever Raheem Sterling assist before Edin Dzeko added a late second to prevent total humiliation for the 2013/2014 English champions.
Odemwingie, who admits he is yet to reach full fitness after a very long injury-enforced lay-off, scored Stoke’s equaliser in the 79th minute, but Koln scored the winner in the 89th minute.
Iheanacho brought spark to the City attack and came close to scoring twice before his breakthrough. His first sight of goal was in the 60th minute when his inventive backflick beat the keeper but did not have enough pace on it to beat a covering defender.
He then latched on to a through ball in the 74th minute but the Stuttgart keeper was quickly off his line to smother the attempt on goal.
Iheanacho has been very busy this pre-season for City, clocking more game minutes that a host of superstars while scoring and assisting goals.
