Burkina Faso won a drawing of lots with Sudan in Brazzaville Monday to qualify for an All-Africa Games football tournament semi-final against Group B winners Nigeria.
The Burkinabe and Sudanese had finished level on points, head-to-head records, goal difference and goals scored behind Group A winners Congo Brazzaville.
Widely regarded in African football as an unsatisfactory method of separating sides, it was used at the 2015 Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea and gave Guinea a quarter-finals place at the expense of Mali.
Congo meet Group B runners-up Senegal in the other semi-final and both matches are scheduled for Tuesday in the Congolese capital.
The winners advance to the final of the under-23 competition three days later at the 60,000-capacity Stade de l’Unite.
Cameroon have won four All-Africa Games football competitions, Egypt two and Algeria, Congo Brazzaville, Ghana and Nigeria one each.
