SUWON: Dream Team Finally Win A Game

– The Dream Team have finally won a game at the Suwon Invitational Tournament
– Siasia’s boys came from behind to defeat Honduras 3 – 1
– Saturday scored a magnificent goal by lobbing the goalie from the center of the pitch


The U-23 Dream Team have finally won a game at the on going Suwon Invitational Tournament after coming from behind to defeat Honduras 3 – 1 in a very tight game.

Coach Samson Siasia rang the changes in the team that lost 6 – 2 to Denmark on Saturday June 4, with the first XI being: Yusuf, Ndifreke, Saturday, Obanor, Amuzie, Usman, Azubuike, Saviour, Popoola, Abdulrahman, Awoniyi. Hunduras started the match better and almost went ahead in the fifth minute but Anthony Lopez could not put the ball in the net with a header. 
 
Alber Elis scored in the 17th minute for the Central Americans. The Americans went into the break with the lead. Taiwo Awoniyi was brought off for Dimgba which was the turning point in the match as Captain Azubuike Okechukwu equalized for Nigeria in the 61st minute. Nigeria’s persistence finally paid off in the 69th minute as Godwin Saviour scored from the spot after Ndifreke was fouled in the penalty box. In the 74th minute, Ekpai came in for Saviour and Sincere came in for Popoola. 
 
In the 85th minute, Siasia favorite Oduwa came in for Abdulrahman while Tiongoli came in for Usman as Nigeria looked to hold unto the 2 – 1 lead. There was more to come as Saturday scored probably the goal of the tournament as he beat Honduras goalie Fonseca in goal from the center of the pitch. The match ended 3 – 1 in favour of the Dream Team which would come as a relief for the team who lost 1 – 0 to South Korea in their tournament opener and were embarrassed 6 – 2 by Denmark.
