It is interesting to know that Nigerians are spreading their tentacles in almost all the areas with possibilities. They are starting to explore their potentials and they are doing remarkably well in their chosen fields.
In sports now, Chiereka Ukogu has broken the limit when it comes to rowing. The 23-year-old lady would be the first Nigerian to ever represent the country at the Olympics rowing event in 2016. She is not just breaking history, she has been able to go that far because of the sacrifices she has made and the strong determination she has.
Dreams do not happen overnight; you have to be ready to invest into them and not rely on luck to make things happen. Chiereka Ukogu had to put her dreams of being a medical doctor on hold in order for her to represent Nigeria at the Olympics.
She was born and raised in the United States by her Nigerian parents. The young lady who graduated from Stanford University in California funded her training and travel expenses by selling T-shirts since she did not receive any financial help from the Nigerian government.
Ukogu is excited to be the first Nigerian rowing athlete at the Olympics even though she needs more funds to train harder. She resorted to get more funds via her GoFundMe page. She is delighted to see her dream gradually happen and at the same time thrilled to be able to inspire young people in Nigeria and in the U.S. The young lady also wants to be a great athlete and desires for sports to be promoted in Africa.
It would be great for Nigerians to support Ukogu and wish her all the very best in her sojourn. We would love her to represent us well and bring home that medal.
