Earlier today, MTV Base announced that global international sensation – Beyonce, will receive the legendary ‘Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award’ at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. The singer, who leads the pack this year with eight VMA nominations, will also bring her unparalleled artistry to the awards, which will take place in Inglewood, California, on Sunday, 24 August.
Mrs Carter has previously delivered some of the most memorable performances in VMA history, including the arresting and explosive “Ring The Alarm” in 2006, the anthem “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”, in 2009 and the unforgettable, surprise bump reveal during “Love On Top” in 2011. Previously announced performers for the 2014 “MTV Video Music Award” include Usher, Ariana Grande, 5 Seconds of Summer and Maroon 5. Additional performers and presenters will be announced at a later date.
Beyonce’s triumphant return to the MTV VMA stage marks her fourth appearance on the loudest, most influential annual live celebration of music in the world.
As a solo artist and former member of one of the most beloved girl band in history, Destiny’s Child, Beyoncé has won an astounding 11 “MTV Video Music Awards,” including “Video of the Year” (2009) for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” and “Best Female” (2007) for “Crazy in Love”.
This year, she leads other nominees with eight nods, including “Video of the Year,” “Best Female” and “Best Choreography.” Beyoncé will be presented with the highly coveted ‘Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award’ joining a prestigious list of past recipients including Michael Jackson, Madonna, Peter Gabriel, R.E.M., Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.
To vote for the VMA winners, in categories such as “Best Hip Hop,” “MTV Clubland”, “Best Video with a Social Message” and more visit vma.mtv.com. Nominees for a new socially voted category, “Best Lyric Video” will be announced at a later date on vma.mtv.com.
The 2014 “MTV Video Music Awards” premieres on MTV Base on Monday, 25 August, at 21:00 CAT (red carpet show premieres at 20:00 CAT).
