Hart has kept his place as City’s number one this season, despite the summer arrival of Willy Caballero.
Hart is close to agreeing a deal that would see his basic weekly wage rise by 50 per cent from around £80,000 to £120,000 – and he will pocket even more through various bonuses.
City boss Manuel Pellegrini said: “I always said it is important for this club to keep Joe.
“He is a very good keeper and he is an important player for the squad. I can’t say exactly the amount of hours, but maybe in the next days you will have good news.”
Hart will become the latest City star to commit to the reigning Premier League champions, with David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri, Edin Dzeko and Aleksandar Kolarov having signed new deals in the summer.
