Women Who Sleep More Have More Sex (study)

Women who sleep more tend to have more sex, a new study finds.
Researchers assessed 171 college-age women’s sleep patterns for 14 consecutive days and reported whether they had sexual activity the next day.
“Our study showed that good sleep is important for healthy sexual desire and arousal in women, even when women are psychiatrically and medically healthy,” David Kalmbach, a researcher at the University of Michigan Sleep and Circadian Research Laboratory and the study’s author, told HealthDay.
Kalmbach and his team found that longer sleep timewas linked to greater sexual desire the next day. Women with longer average sleep time told researchers they had a better genital arousal than women with shorter sleep time. The average woman who participated in the study slept for 7 hours and 22 minutes.
Each additional hour of sleep increased a woman’s likelihood of engaging in sexual activity the next day by 14 percent, according to the study.
The researchers did not determine how lack of sleep would affect sexual desire but suggested that changes in mood could play a part.
“The message is that sleep health is important for many areas of our daily living,” Kalmback added to HealthDay. “Good sleep has been shown to improve mood, energy, concentration, overall health, and now, sexual desire and arousal.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that adults get between 7 and 8 hours of sleep per night.
