FIFA RANKING: Super Eagles Move Up Six Places In Latest Ranking


– Nigeria are not ranked the 61st best team in the world and 12th best in Africa

– The Super Eagles defeated Mali and Luxembourg in friendlies played in May

Nigeria’s victories over Mali and Luxembourg in friendly games have seen the Super Eagles move up six places in the latest FIFA rankings.

Nigeria moved from 67th place in the Fifa rankings for May to 61st in the June rankings released on Thursday, though are twelveth-ranked African side. In Africa, they are placed behind Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Cape Verde, Congo DR, Guinea, Cameroon and Congo. Algeria moved one place up to number 32 in the world, while reigning African kings Cote d’Ivoire dived two places to place number 36.


Argentina and Belgium held firm to the first and second spot in the world. The next world ranking will be published on 14 July 2016. In the first match against Mali, Kelechi Iheanacho settled the tie for Nigeria with a 1 – 0 win, while against Luzembourg, Iheancho, Brown Ideye and Odion Ighalo netted one goal each for the Super Eagles; that game ended 3 – 1 in Nigeria’s favour.
