It was fight to finish in the final match of the 2015/2016 Copa Del Rey between La Liga champions Barcelona and Europa League champions Sevilla. Jordi Alba and Neymar scored extra-time goals to ensure Barcelona completed their season with a double, having won the La Liga earlier.
There were 2 red cards and 14 yellow cards in the encounter which had all the ingredients of a final. Barcelona were reduced to 10-men after Javier Mascherano was shown a straight red card following a foul on Gameiro who was through on goal in the 36th minute. Luis Enrique’s woes were compounded in the 57th minute when 2015/2016 Pichichi winner Luis Suarez was substituted by Rafinha due to injury, as Lionel Messi also suffered a serious tackle. Sevilla were unlucky as Ever Banega’s effort crashed unto the inside foot of the left post with a shot from just outside the area late on in the encounter. The same player was later sent off after a dangerous tackle on Lionel Messi; as the scoreline remained goalless after 90minutes, the game went into extra time. Jordi Alba and Neymar later opened the scoring for Barcelona in the 97th minute as Sevilla’s defense line was caught unawares and Neymar’s effort with virtually the last kick of the game sealed it for the Catalan giants in style. It ended: Barcelona 2 – 0 Sevilla.
