Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge came off the bench to secure a win for England in their Euro 2016 second group game against rivals Wales. Man City’s Raheem Sterling had the chance to open the scoring in the 14th minute but he somehow put the ball over the bar from a low cross by Lallana. Gareth Bale scored a stunning long range freekick in the 42nd minute which Joe Hart should have handled better.
Wales went into the break full of confidence as England looked shaky on the counter. Roy Hodgson reacted to his side going down by brining on Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge for Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling respectively. England equalized when Rooney played a hopeful ball into the box, there was a kerfuffle, Sturridge recovered possession and clipped a floater into the middle.
The ball hits Ashley Williams on the head and deflected towards Vardy who was in an offside position to scramble home.
